Family Trips

June 28th, 2017

Family trips are very important for the children.  If possible try to include grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins.  This way they get to know each other more and they establish a bond with each other.  It could be a smaller trip like going to the zoo or a road trip.  These trips create a life long memory.  The children look forward to these trips.  You can encourage them to keep a journal or make a photo memory book out of these trips.

Teaching Sounds To Young Children

June 16th, 2017
In Montessori we have a simple and effective way of teaching letter sounds to children from a very young age. One of our most effective ways is introducing the sounds to them in groupings. By introducing 4 sounds at a time you can enforce the letter sound recognition. An example would be the letters S, M, A, T.  When the child can recognize these letters you can introduce objects to match to the sounds. These can be any objects that start with these letters. You then show the child, this is a snake, emphasize the “s”, ask which letter starts with an “s” (make the sound). This is a fun interactive way for your toddler or preschooler to start making connections in their language development.

Healthy Eating

June 8th, 2017
As a parent it is important to encourage healthy eating habits in the children from a young age. Try to cut down on sugar filled snacks. Instead of canned or frozen food try to use fresh ingredients in your cooking. You can be creative and make the snack more appealing to your children by making snacks using various themes. Some examples are : creating American flag with fruits, ants on a log with celery sticks and raisins.
