Science with your child!

August 10th, 2017
Montessori methods use a lot of hands on material for science. Just a fun summer activity you can do with your family is a sink or float game. This could be in a pool, a plastic bin, anything you can fit objects into to find out if they sink or float. This is a good experiment to open up other discussions. Some you can bring up, for example water retention, then some ideas your child will come up with on their own. Doing open ended experiments with your child is the best way to open their mind to creative thinking.

Let’s Learn To Cook With Kids!

July 27th, 2017
This summer, have your child learn how to cook  healthy foods while learning some math skills. Kids love to help Mom in the kitchen! Make a yummy fruit pizza. Make cookie dough using flour, sugar, etc…Have your child learn about measurements by using ½ cup, 1 cup, 1 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, etc… in the kitchen. Roll out the dough into a large “pizza”. Once the dough is cooked and cooled, spread peanut butter or cookie butter on top of the cookie. Have them brush up on their practical life skills by cutting up their favorite fruit and top your “pizza”.
Now enjoy your yummy, healthy dessert!

Science in the Summer

July 12th, 2017
Summer is a great time for science! Kids love getting their hands wet and messy while learning! No need to get the house dirty,  leave the mess for outside.
Make a volcano with the kids while learning about chemical reaction. All you need is a few household items such as baking soda (½ cup), vinegar (1 cup) and a few drops of red food coloring. And watch it erupt!!!! Your kids will want to do it over and over again. You can make snow in the summer time also!

Summer Reading

May 10th, 2017

A s the school year winds down, it’s time to think about ways to keep your little one interested in reading over the summer!  Letting your child choose his or her own books for reading allows them to truly engage in the reading experience. Don’t be afraid to let them select a book that you think may be too hard- their interest in the pictures will help them create a story all their own! Another way to keep the engagement alive is to write down the stories they tell you! They will love hearing you read their words back to them. Keep the creativity flowing by letting them illustrate their words, too! If you are looking for some inspiration, here are a few tried and true summer favorites:

Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin

Dragons Love Tacos 2: The Sequel by Adam Rubin

The Pout Pout Fish by Deborah Deisen

Pete the Cat (series) by James Dean and Eric Litwin
