Spring is the perfect time for learning about the plant life!

Last week,  it was a planting day at Montessori Country Day School in Flower Mound. Each child brought a plant from home. Parents and teachers helped the children to plant their flowers and vegetables in the garden. Children are taking care of their plants, watering them and watching their growth! What a fun way to learn about botany!

 Make a Friendship Fruit Salad!

What a great way for our kids to learn about sharing with our friends!

We had each child bring in their favorite fruit. Then we exercised our practical life skills! We peeled, cut and sliced our fruits. Each child put their fruit in our class bowl and …voila!! A delicious and healthy snack for all of us to share!

Your? You’re? Who’s? Whose? Which one do you use?

April 12th, 2017

These are commonly misused contractions. When helping students understand which one to use, help them envision splitting up the contraction first.

For instance, who’s = who is

If a sentence can be said with “who is”, then write it with “who’s”.

E.g. ________ going to clear your room?

(“Who is” makes perfect sense than “whose” so that contraction should be used instead.).

Toddlers Spooning Work

April 4th, 2017

Each week in our  Montessori toddler classroom we work to to develop the movements and hand control needed for manipulating a spoon. This work helps promote fine motor skills, pincer grip and assists children with their development of concentration and independence.

During the month of February, We took some of the Valentine materials and incorporated them into our work. We had the child move the small heart shapes from one bowl to another, with the goal of  doing so as quietly as possible.

This is an easy take home idea for your child. You can use any objects, beans, rice, holiday items, etc., to let your child work on his Practical Life skills.
