Teaching Sounds To Young Children

June 16th, 2017
In Montessori we have a simple and effective way of teaching letter sounds to children from a very young age. One of our most effective ways is introducing the sounds to them in groupings. By introducing 4 sounds at a time you can enforce the letter sound recognition. An example would be the letters S, M, A, T.  When the child can recognize these letters you can introduce objects to match to the sounds. These can be any objects that start with these letters. You then show the child, this is a snake, emphasize the “s”, ask which letter starts with an “s” (make the sound). This is a fun interactive way for your toddler or preschooler to start making connections in their language development.
